It Starts With One
Rosa Parks was another African Woman who was not afraid to speak up. Not only did Rosa speak her mind, but throughout her actions she showed people that blacks and whites shouldn't have to be separated. Blacks had to sit in the back of the bus, and whites in the front. One day Rosa decided that she was going to sit in the front. She risked her life just to prove that something as little as where you sat on the bus whether you were black or white shouldn't matter. Rosa's acts triggered the Montgomery Bus Acts, which made the law that stated blacks had to sit in the back of the bus and white had to sit in the front of the bus unconstitutional. Rosa helped being the Civil Rights Movement with her actions. She showed people that it was okay to stand up for them, and that they should not be afraid to stand up for what they believe in because most of the time, someone else believes the same thing but is afraid to standup for him/herself.
Glory
The Union soldiers were not the only ones to demonstrate a willingness to take a stand, the Southerners also demonstrated a great willingness to go down fighting. The Confederates had beliefs that were opposing to that of the north, but the beliefs were just as strong. The South was taking quite a chance by fighting the civil war, given the fact that they had far less men than the North. The mere fact that the Southerners were willing to die for what they honestly believed were their rights, proves that they wanted to go down standing up
The Middle
In 1661, Virginia officially recognized slavery by statute. A year later, a Virginia statute declared that newly born children would have the same status as their mother. With the lawful support of slavery, slaves were brought into the colony by ship. By the end of the 17th century, more than a thousand slaves per year were transported into the colony. In 1708, there were 12,000 blacks and 18,000 whites. By 1756, the black population was 120,156 while the white population was still the majority, numbering 173,316.
