If you want to achieve your goals get a vision
Something that Matt Morris wrote in a recent edition of the Success University newsletter about “goals” and “vision” really struck me the other day. Here’s what he said: “We all know what a goal is, but vision is a topic of confusion for many. To put it in the simplest of terms, your vision is how you see yourself. You can set goals all day long, but if you cannot truly see yourself achieving them, your goals will never be realized. To accomplish a goal, you must truly expect to achieve it.” The key word is “see”. How many of us fail to achieve goals because we don’t give them real substance in the subconscious by visualizing them taking place? I still have pages of old diaries full of “year goals” that were never achieved, year in and year out. They were worthy enough goals, but they lacked any deep vision of success. The problem with setting your goals without first seeing your vision is that you are failing to appeal to your subconscious mind with pictures that compel. If you do not appeal to your subconscious with a clear picture it is unlikely that your life will change. As anybody who knows Matt Morris will tell you, he grew up amidst poverty and low expectations.

Baltimore Schools Set Performance Goals

All school systems should have goals. These goals must be attainable, however. While these centers of learning must know where they headed and how they are going to get there, it seems that they are becoming more and more unreasonable in their expectations. Perhaps they should be classified more as performance dreams; because no matter how many times you write “all students will…” doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. Baltimore Schools, just like many others throughout the natio...

Time Management Essential For University Students

Making the cut in university admissions does not mean everything will be smooth sailing. All the hard work back in high school has paid off, and was only a warm-up for what is yet to come. For many people college can be more hectic and stressful than high school. Unfortunately, many students assume that they can take it easy once they reach college. The Summer of Goals: How to Spend Your Vacation Wisely

The Summer of Goals: How to Spend Your Vacation Wisely
The Summer of Goals: How to Spend Your Vacation Wisely
For the K-12 set, summer vacation means pool and beach time, family vacations, sleeping late, the absence of routine and maybe a laid-back summer job at a camp or the grocery store. But for college students, summers can quickly turn into study abroad opportunities, internships, and research apprenticeships on campus. You’ll still have lots of time for relaxation and socializing with friends and family, but the summer break is also a key time to spend thinking about your future and the short- and long-term goals you’ll need to set in order to get there. As you enjoy the less frenzied pace of summer, take time to brainstorm, because once school starts again, your deadline-oriented schedule will leave you with less free time to map out goals.

Even if you’re busy this summer, your commitments are probably short-term and less stressful and demanding than your classwork and extracurriculars during the school year. Take advantage of the slower pace to indulge in fantasies about your dream job or about the kinds of adventures you want to pursue while you still can. Whether it’s for your own personal benefit or to start your career journey, this freedom to brainstorm and think big is actually the first step to the practical goal-setting process. Once you’ve played around with some ideas for your immediate or long-term future, you can start writing down ideas for how to make them come true.
