Thanksgiving Day Memories

Thanksgiving Day Memories
Thanksgiving Day Memories
It’s Thanksgiving morning, 2007, and before I start wailing about what isn’t right in my life, I think I should give thanks for what is right. First of all, of course, would be my husband, children and their children, without whom life would be empty for me. I often think how sad it would be, to be alone in this world. Then I thought back to the days when my children were finally giving me some long-awaited grandchildren. That, I hoped, guaranteed I’d have little ones around for a lot of years to give me lots of love and hugs. I thought back to my stress-free feelings at that time…

Grandchildren have a way of bringing life back into our lives. Mine do &ndash all fifteen of them. In a world of so many lonely people, I feel blessed that my life is filled with happy, energetic progeny; all so different, yet defined by drops of my DNA. I often look at them with utter amazement &ndash that from my genes (okay, maybe a few others) these rarefied beings sprang forth.

The Exercise Of Emulation

The Exercise Of Emulation
The Exercise Of Emulation
A writing exercise that is helpful in learning a very specific style of writing is called Emulation. This is done to match the style of a specific author.

In essence, you create an entirely new passage using an existing passage as your guide.

For example if you wanted to try to write in the same manner as the Psalmist you might copy a passage of Scripture…

Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Thanksgiving

In today's meeting, the President of the United States of America, George W. Bush, officially announced he is having a Thanksgiving party at his ranch in Crawford, Texas this weekend. Throughout the day, invitations were sent out all over the White House. My body grew tremendously excited at the possibility that maybe this year I would be invited. My partner Bill walked in with his invitation in his hand, wagged it around as though it were merely nothing to him and then threw it aimlessly towards the trash can but missed. My eyes grew large as I was extremely angered by the offense he had just committed in front of me. To my surprise, he caught my severe look and politely asked, "Would you rather go instead of me? I could simply change the name without anyone knowing." The tension on my face began to ease as I looked up at him from my seat and to my amusement my lips formed a strong smile in answer to his question. The process took only a short moment but in that time I carefully observed the paper in Bill's hand and couldn't help but notice its beauty. The thickness of the card clearly showed its expense and the soft colors of the shade blue played along the edges of the card, showing its artistic side for the affair. And now I was a member.

Essay

Best friends always have inside jokes that seem stupid to everyone else but get you rolling on the floor every time you mention them. A best friend will always tell you that you look good, even on your worst days. A best friend is someone with whom you've shared your most intimate secrets with, and laughed the loudest. You've already made plans to name one of your children after her, in hopes that one of them is a girl. And although best friends may grow apart and not talk to each other as much, it is safe to say that true best friends are the ones you have for life. A best friend always understands you, or at least pretends

The Challenge of Being a Student-Athlete

The Challenge of Being a Student-Athlete
The Challenge of Being a Student-Athlete
Many college sports fans think student-athletes have it made: they get a free education in exchange for playing sports. If they’re any good, they earn Big Man (or Woman) on Campus status and even national fame for their accomplishments. Some are rewarded with multi-million dollar contracts before they even graduate. Despite the perceptions of critical observers of college athletics, the success of student-athletes is wrought with hard work and dedication.

It’s an investment in time, especially for participants in the most popular college sport – football. According to a 2006 NCAA study, college football players spend an average of 44.8 hours per week practicing and playing their sport. That’s a full-time job plus about five hours of overtime. The work isn’t easier for other student-athletes. Golfers spend 40.8 hours per week on the course and softball players hit the field 37.1 hours per week. Student-athletes aren’t normal students. They don’t get to experience the simple pleasures that most take for granted. Christmas and Thanksgiving breaks last just a few days combined, so little time is spent with their families. Spring Breaks are used for training and not trips to the coast, so few lasting memories are made with their friends.

As a rule, the college considers your professional choices as a mean to estimate your favours, merits, mental processes, creative work, sense of humour, and the knowledge depth. Your essay writing can mirror your power of persuasiveness, organizational skills, style and command of standard written English.

Thus, the choice of your College Essay Topic discovers:
- Your personal favours. Are you an arts individual or only factual science type? No doubt, there is a distinction between the person who prefers talking on the Cold War with Machiavelli and individual who would like to get painting points from Jackson Pollock.
- Your values. Choice also shows worthies; a man who drives a dilapidated, corroded, 1969 Volkswagen is making a suggestion on how he desires to spend his currency and what he bother about. In preferring your College Essay Topic, you display what signify to you and how you apprehend yourself.

Rutgers To Reorganize Alumni Association For The Better

From time to time, I write about Rutgers, the state university I know best. Rutgers is a very good school; U.S. News ranks my alma mater as one of the nation's top 20 state universities - and quirky enough to be interesting to an education writer. Rutgers is the state university of New Jersey; those four words follow the name in all school marketing, so people know for sure. Purdue, the College of William and Mary and most recently, the flagship campuses of the State Unive...
